NORMAN AND ST. ELSEWHERE
May 13th, 2021 3:47 PM

Dear Friends,

I was truly saddened to hear that veteran actor, NORMAN LLOYD, passed away at the remarkable age of 106 just a couple of days ago. Norman will always be remembered as the compassionate Dr. Daniel Auschlander on the television medical drama ST. ELSEWHERE that ran on NBC from 1982 through 1988. Of all the medical shows that I've ever viewed, ST. ELSEWHERE was the most engaging, thoughtful and compelling in its dramatic content. The characters were portrayed on a most personal level that anyone under the most consequential circumstances would take to heart. The ensemble cast revealed their personalities in a gradual manner, as every episode offered additional exposures on how to survive the stress that dominates in a hospital setting.

ST.ELSEWHERE was a show that is considered by many as truly authentic in its approach of human interactions. The stellar cast included Norman. He was well known in entertainment, as his illustrious career embraced various creative roles as an actor and director. Norman was involved in radio, film and television in a career that began in the early 1920's.

ST. ELSEWHERE will always be considered one of my favorite shows. Just hearing the theme of the show so many years later, brings out a vivid presence that endears my imagination and places me within the confines of the hospital itself. The last episode of ST. ELSEWHERE will always be recognized as having the most unusual ending and had its loyal viewers stunned and fascinated by its abrupt curtailment of reality. Even today, I remember my reaction of complete bewilderment when the last episode aired on May 25th, 1988.

All told, Norman was indeed a member of a drama that was truly fascinating. He lived a long and productive life and will be recognized for his creative contributions. His portrayal as Dr. Auschlander along with the entire cast of characters at St. Eligius, are memories of a poignant time in television that would be difficult to recreate.

Condolences to Norman's beloved family and dearest friends.

Thanks again for your continuous support - during these challenging times in America - a nation under siege.
